While informal testing has been conducted all along, now that all the pieces are in place, we need to rigorously test all portions of the site. For small sites, generally a quick scanning of the pages by a number of people is enough. For sites that implement a number of features, this is a critical step to make certain your site launches successfully.
First we formulate a QA plan. This includes who will test on what platforms and what they will try to accomplish on the site. For example, we will have someone start on a specified page, try to look up information on a specific topic, then request more information. We look at how easy it was to accomplish this task and any errors they encountered along the way. Testing will involve a number of such tasks using different computers, operating systems, browsers, etc.
Once we know what needs to be fixed, we prioritize and fix the issues. Of course, we test again to make certain we haven't introduced new issues.
